The climate of New York is continental, with cold winters
and hot summers. Humidity is very high in summer, when the
city swelters in temperatures well over 92°F (30°C) most
days. Autumn is a pleasant season with mild temperatures,
sunny days and lower humidity. Winter in New York is warmer
than inland cities on the same latitude, the daytime
temperatures seldom dropping below freezing. A few feet of
snow is usual during the winter months, but rain is the more
common form of precipitation. Spring arrives suddenly with
temperatures climbing rapidly, usually hitting close to
