Sir Lanka Activities

Beaches |
With more than 1,000 miles
of beautiful coastline, Sri Lanka has a
beach for everyone. Many of the nicest beaches are located
around
traditional fishing villages or have resorts right on the
sand. Check
out Galle’s Unawatuna Beach, which is widely regarded as one
of the
planet’s finest strips of sand. Otherwise, Beruwela,
Hikkaduwa, Bentota
and Mount Lavina Negombo have excellent facilities to go
with their
beach scene.

Hiking |
The hilly interior of Sri
Lanka is home to rainforests, cloudforests
and beautiful national parks. Hikers will be in heaven
trekking around
such wonders as World’s End near Nuwara Eliya, Knuckle’s
Wilderness
Area near Kandy and Adam’s Peak, the highest point on the
island. Good
trails and local guides make hiking a popular and safe
activity.

Scuba Diving and Snorkelling |
Being an island, it’s no
surprise that Sri Lanka has some great
underwater sites. The country has some amazingly healthy
coral gardens
and marine life well worth exploring. The best diving spots
can be
found around Bentota and Hikkaduwa, where underwater caves
and
shipwrecks add to the fun.

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage |
It’s hard not to love
elephants, and this wonderful nature preserve at
Pinnawela is the best place in the country to get up close
and personal
with these gentle creatures. It’s one thing to see herds of
wild
elephants in a nature park, but for a truly memorable
experience you
need to get up on the back of one of the orphanage’s rescued
elephants
and tour the surrounding jungle. The handlers have saved
these animals
from a life of hard labour, and tourism is what keeps the
project
going.

|
River Rafting |
For something a little
adventurous, take the kids to the village of
Kitulgala where the rivers run clean and clear. Tucked away
in the
beautiful lush environment of Sri Lanka’s hill country, this
village is
a hub for rafting excursions. All levels of rafting are
available in
the area, from casual beginner’s trips to more exciting
rides through
white water rapids.
