Toronto has all kinds of music and dance clubs, as well
as lots of
places to lounge. Many have the life span of a
butterfly, so call
before you set out to make sure they're still open and
offering the
kind of evening you're searching for. Downtown, Adelaide
Street West
from University Avenue to Peter Street has spawned
numerous clubs of
the loud, house and techno variety. Many places there
don't charge a
cover, and those that do rarely ask more than C$10.
The stretch of College Street between Bathurst and
Ossington streets,
known as Little Italy, is crammed with candlelighted
martini bars and
the party often spills out onto the streets. In the
Beaches, home of
the Beaches International Jazz Festival, bars and clubs
cater to
casual, sporty types who stroll up after playing beach
volleyball. The
bars on Queen West are some of the hippest in the city,
especially with
the advent of the Drake and Gladstone. Gay nightlife
centers around
Church and Wellesley streets northeast of Downtown.
