Beach of Brazil

Fernando de Noronha

Fernando de Noronha is a group of 21 volcanic islands 340 miles from Recife, Pernambuco, which was declared National Marine Park since 1988, in order to protect land and marine vegetation as well as land animals and marine life. In fact is difficult to catalogue Fernando de Noronha as a beach, because is a group of islands with many beaches, but we at Brazil Beaches decided to do it because will be unfair to make a ranking of the best beaches in Brazil and not include the most beautiful place in the whole country.

Copacabana

The Copacabana beach is probably the most famous beach in Brazil, and why not, one of the most famous beaches in the world. But what does that this beach so famous? The first explanation is that Copacabana is one of the beaches in Rio de Janeiro, the wonderful city, where resides Christ, one of the seven modern marvels and a symbol of Brazil. In addition to that, Copacabana is a 4 kilometers long wide beach framed by the hills of Rio de Janeiro and where millions of "cariocas" (the inhabitants of Rio) meet to enjoy what the Brazilians more like: beach, the sun, beer and nice women in bikinis.

Pipa

The Ipanema beach is one of the best beaches of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, and one of the most famous of the world. Immortalized in worldwide well-known song of Tom Jobim, "Garota de Ipanema", that in fact was based on the beauty of the beach and the grace and the sexuality of the Brazilian women, Ipanema is one of these beaches that not only stand out for his beauty, but also for the adrenaline that surrounds it: many persons, bars, restaurants, movement . exactly the opposite from a beach to find peace and calmness, but the ideal beach to know the Brazilian culture and to make friends.

Ipanema

This peninsula and group of 365 islands (one for each day of the year!) is a holiday playground that boasts 2,000 beautiful beaches and a natural wonderland of mountains, forests, waterfalls, lakes and secret coves. Visitors can take trips by schooner, yacht or motor launch to explore the delights of the area, particularly the main island, Ilha Grande. Fishing and diving are the favoured activities for tourists, and on land there are hundreds of walking trails giving access to some of the less frequented beaches like Canto, Abraaozinho, Morcego and Grande das Palmas. The beaches of Aventureiro and Lopes Mendes are also popular with surfers.

Jericoacoara

Twenty years ago this beach was a simple fishing village with no electricity. Nowadays, the place has grown on infrastructure but keeps all the peace and tranquility that you will expect from a place like this. The main reason for this is that for accessing to this beach you will have to use a 4 wheel vehicle to pass dirty roads. And even once you arrive in Jericoacoara beach you will find that most of the streets in the village are covered by sand, so to move yourself in the beach you will have to walk or drive a buggy.

The meaning of the word Jericoacoara is Hole of Turtles, and came from the fact that lots of turtles comes to this beach to dig holes to lay their eggs. So you can expect to see a lot of turtles in Jericoacoara beach.

Porto de Galinhas

Porto de Galinhas (Port of Chickens Beach) is in our selection the second best beach in Brazil. This spectacular beach changed from a fisherman village to a very popular destination for domestic travelers, that are hypnotized by its beauty and happy about the medium level of infrastructure that the beach has developed.

The history of the beach name is very interesting. In the 19th century, Brazilian government prohibited the slave commerce, which was very common in Recife until then. So, pirates had to create a solution to continue bringing slaves to Brazil avoiding the law, and then they started delivering slaves to other beaches more deserted, like for example Suape and Ipojuca. When the "black ships" (named that was given to the ships that commerce slaves) arrives to the port, to avoid suspicious the code message was "there are new chickens in the beach", where chickens were obviously the slaves; hence, the beach get the name of Port of Chickens Beach.

Canoa Quebrada

Canoa Quebrada is an old and small village installed on cliffs that was discovered and popularized by the hippies in the sixties. This beach has transparent water surrounded by enormous multicolored dunes. From the top of these dunes, you could see what the locals call "the magic sunset" or, at night of full moon, the sea becomes a silver mirror where you can see a dancing moon moving across the sea.

The nature of this beach is fragile, and for that reason a special attention must be given to the dunes and cliffs and any construction in the beach is allowed only after a detailed study and considering that destruction of the vegetation is prohibited. This beach is in a Protected Area that was created in 1998 to protect the area and keep untouched all natural attractions as well as local flora and fauna.

Morro do Sao Paulo

Morro de Sao Paulo (St. Paul's Hill) is one of the most desired tropical destinations in the world, and ranks very high in the Top Brazil's Beaches, because it still has clean sand, palm trees, crystal and warm water containing colorful fish living in deserted beaches.

Just for you to imagine, the Morro is a kind of volcano, with the beaches on the bottom, and the houses (or "pousadas", as the local says) in the top. So you can live at the top of hill with a fantastic landscape, and go down just to go to the beach. To make things quieter, cars are prohibited in Morro do Sao Paulo. Only four wheel drives and tractors are used to access the more remote spots, and there are no streets, just alleys.

Praia do Rosa

Praia do Rosa (Rose Beach) is a crescent shaped beach-bay surrounded by lagoons and hills covered with wild vegetation. It has 3 kms/1.8 miles of extension and initially this beach was discovered during the seventies by surfers, who enjoyed Praia do Rosa´s excellent waves.

Not only surfers could have fun in Praia do Rosa, but also you will find other activities like hiking/tramping, horseback riding and lagoon and waterfall baths. The beauty of this beach bay is recognized worldwide, being the only bay in Brazil to be part of the "Most Beautiful Bays of the World Club", which comes with UNESCO´S official seal.

Pitinga

Locate in the Porto Seguro District, and very near Arraial De Ajuda, Pitinga beach is for sure one of the most beautiful beaches in the state of Bahia, which means, one of the best beaches in Brazil. In front of the beach there is a big mountain, full of green vegetation, that gives you the idea, while you are swimming of being in a lost paradise. There are a lot of swimming pools in Pitinga Beach, and you can take a bath there while colorful fishes swim around you.

The beach has a very good infrastructure, because you can find almost whatever you want, but does not loose the sense of virginity.
